    Poem Commentary

One of the first poems I ever wrote.

    Death.

    Death

Is a fate which I have earned,

    Nothing new was learned.

Nothing I knew was good enough,

Nothing ever met what you wanted it to,

Now its time to pay my dues.

    Death

Is a fate which i have earned.

    Nothing new was learned,

    Nevermore, Nevermore

    I wont let you through!

    Death

Is a fate which I have earned.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
