Dance in the Rain

Dance in the Rain

And in my waiting
The storm did come
All my feelings
Had come undone
I danced in the rain
Holding on to the past
I went insane
Wondered how long it would last
The night did clear
Morning did come
A new day of hope
A new song to be sung
My head was high
My heart was deep
My soul was fire
But my thoughts were asleep
For I am not lonely
My heart aches not in vain
My lesson was learning
How to dance in the rain

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
