Crowded waves

Crowded waves

Looking across the massive sea of people,
waves of screams and shouts come crashing over you,
in the attempt to get you to notice them.

Floating alone in the sea;
wondering if you can see me,
through the blond, red, and brunette weeds
I have become tangled up in.

Your eyes scan the crowded waves,
passing over mine.

Sinking further and further into the back open water,
hoping to stay afloat.

Throwing an arm up in one last attempt
to be seen before another
wave comes crashing down.

Your eyes stop.

The waves seem to slow to a steady roll
and I am floating once more
towards the only body that I can see.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
