BLESSED GIFT
He came into my life
when my world was its darkest.
I'd lost my beloved the pain cut me like a knife,
adjusting to being alone and a single parent of
three was the hardest.
I didn't know whether to laugh or cry,
the realization of becoming a grandma
brought about mixed feelings,
hearing the news from my youngest daughter
was the biggest surprise.
When the day came I was holding her hand
with each contraction.
I felt helpless as I watched her scream through
the pain.
Anxiously waiting for the moment of
celebration,
Minutes became hours and hours became
days.
Finally with the last of her strength and a
big push,
his tiny, precious life entered this world.
The room became silent til the slap on his
tush,
his strong, loud cries couldn't help but be
heard.
It's been ten years since his birth day,
I've been his primary caregiver for most
of his life.
I wouldn't change a thing no matter what
others say,
We've been there for each through the
good and the strife.
As he grows I see more of his grandpa
(my departed beloved),
in his appearance and almost every-
thing he says and does.
He's been my blessed gift from God
above.
