Poem Commentary

Just a poem about so-called men with sisters and daughters who refer to women as bitches

battle of birth

                                                battle of birth

                                                hers

                                                is the body

                                                thru which u

                                                (torpedoed your

                                                way from seed

                                                to inception--from

                                                cosmic spirit to breathing

                                                flesh blood & bones

                                                she

                                                kept u secure

                                                in belly of life--

                                                nurtured your body with

her body day after week after

month until that final assault on

                                                birth assuming position of surrender

                                                breath-by-breath

                                                she crushed

                                                the wrath of

                                                mother's pain

captain to crew! captain to crew! man your station!

                                                sir!

                                                with all

                                                due respect

                                                to u the Officer

                                                In Charge of life in

                                                general--have u

                                                forgotten the battle of

                                                birth & who laid down

                                                so u could stand tall

A man who understands the "Battle of Birth." Your respect for this and women comes through. I like this.

Just trying to capture a bit of gender sensitivity juxtaposed with maleness

Sometimes as male, we have the tendency to be so gender insensitive towards female that I wonder, how would this guy feel if his daughter, mother or sister, was shown the same disrespect.

Thank you for your comment and compliment. Appreciation is a powerful word. We all need it and it's not gender exclusive

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
