Baby Girl
My baby girl, my little love,
My flower child, my cooing dove,
Someday you’ll leave your mother’s arm,
For someone else’s, safe and warm,
And I, your mother, all alone,
Will miss that you depended on
The one who brought you in this world.
My heart will mourn my baby girl!
I’ll look at pictures of your youth,
From your first smile with your first tooth,
To your recital – piano? flute? -
To your prom night, your date in suit,
And you in gown of softest blue…
I’ll cry at these pictures of you!
Remembering will be hard for me,
For you’re special, always will be.
I know someday you’ll leave the nest,
As I hold you close to my breast.
I wish to keep you, as you are,
For you’re my joy, the brightest star,
And any treasure in this world
Means nothing next to you, my girl.
So someday when you have your own,
Remember me, who’s all alone,
Who longs for you, the joy she’d found,
And please remember, come around
To visit your mom - your love she’d see.
For now, just sleep, and dream of me.
My flower child, my cooing dove,
Someday you’ll leave your mother’s arm,
For someone else’s, safe and warm,
And I, your mother, all alone,
Will miss that you depended on
The one who brought you in this world.
My heart will mourn my baby girl!
I’ll look at pictures of your youth,
From your first smile with your first tooth,
To your recital – piano? flute? -
To your prom night, your date in suit,
And you in gown of softest blue…
I’ll cry at these pictures of you!
Remembering will be hard for me,
For you’re special, always will be.
I know someday you’ll leave the nest,
As I hold you close to my breast.
I wish to keep you, as you are,
For you’re my joy, the brightest star,
And any treasure in this world
Means nothing next to you, my girl.
So someday when you have your own,
Remember me, who’s all alone,
Who longs for you, the joy she’d found,
And please remember, come around
To visit your mom - your love she’d see.
For now, just sleep, and dream of me.
