A Long Time Ago.

A Long Time Ago.

Cracks in a sidewalk
Gliding on the surface of glass
Turning into pock-marked cement.
Teeth shatteing, rumbling rough
A long time ago.

Skate keys swingling wildly

Around my neck, so small,
A long time ago.

Oh how we swiftly flew then.
The wind at our back
Clickity clack, clickity clack
A long time ago.

Sensing sweet summer sun,
Boldly baking, on my bare back.
A long time ago.

Skies so blue, wind so warm,
Fresh air and laughter cries out,
Giving instant pleasure.
A long time ago.

Days that never end,
Blending into sunseting summer nights.
Childhood and wonderment,

My heart remember, my soul yearns
For more.
A long time ago.

The child in me remembers!

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
