A Daughters Farewell to her Dad
What can I say about my Father
the man I admired most?
other than he liked 3 minute eggs
and used to eat burnt toast
My Dad was the strongest man
the one I looked up to most
my Dad could do anything
and I don't care if I boast
My Dad worked on the water
most of his adult life
once he retired he always liked
to spend time with his wife
They would pull their trailer here and there
they went all over the United States
it wouldn't surprise me if Dad's got a trailer
and drove right through those gates
My Father loved to fish
and he could catch more than most
he taught us to clean and scale
you did it or your butt would roast
Mom would always fry the fish
better than any I ever had
Dad loved to cook too
no better chef you could have had
I remember watching my parents dance
how they would glide across the floor
I have lots of memories of that
I wonder if their feet ever got sore
I have lots of memories of Dad
as I'm sure all of you do too
They're kept in a special place in our hearts
to use when we want and enjoy
Papa loved us all very much
and was proud of all of us too
he wouldn't want us to mourn too long
but he knew it was something we'd have to do
So when you think of my Dad-our Papa
smile and remember him well
how he loved to tell a story
and joke and give Mom hell
His little"well then" and
"shwshwshwhsh" he would sometimes do
you'll remember little small things
and of course the big things too
I love my daddy very much
I will miss him with all of my heart
but I will carry him with me forever
because I believe we never truly part
so Dad if your up there listening
I know God has you in his loving arms
I know you will keep watch over us
and keep us from all harms
May God bless you and keep you
I know I have truly been blessed
because God gave me a father
that was better than all the rest
