When did you discover that you had a love for words? When I was young I kept a Journal/Diary and i would write in it even if I didn't have anything to write about. I would always try to perfect my handwritting and it still looks crazy sometimes. Anyway that's when i knew i loved words, and rhyming them up. |

Re: When did you discover that you had a love for words?Unknownpoet, that is a great way to put it. Classic I love it. As for me I don't ever remember a time when I could not read. I know I couldn't write before pre school, as I remember not knowing how and I remember learning how to write. But I can not remember at time when I couldn't read. Thats odd huh? My mother and my older sisters did read to me. I do remember being read to at a young age but I also remember making them hold the book where I could see it and following along with my mind. Maybe thats how I learned to read.....I remember when I was 5 I got a little pretend piano for Chistmas and I knew at that point that there was no Santa because I knew my mothers hand writing, she had wrote to suzie from santa. Anyway I taught myself to play chicago's color my world on my piano and i wanted to remember the words and i wrote them in crown on my bed room wall and got the spanking of a life time. Thats kinda funny that she failed to see the talent and intelligence of her 5 year old kid because she couldn't get over the writing on the wall. My mother still can't see the writing on the wall for what it is. |

I DID NOT DISCOVER MY LOVE OF WORDS, THE POWER AND IMMORTALITY OF SOUNDS; VENUS DISCOVERED IT, "WRITE ABOUT LOVE AND BEAUTY," SHE SAID. APOLLO LED ME TO THE STREAM, HE SAID "DRINK UNTIL YOU SATIATE." ORPHEUS PLAYED HIS HARP IN MY EAR,. "SING !" SAID HE, "OBLIVIOUS OF TIME. " MERCURY TOOK M E TO MOUNT PARNASSUS, "WE WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO SPEAK, WE WILL TEACH YOU WHAT TO SING," SAID THE MUSES, THALIA AND TERPSICHORE. "ALL IS ALREADY SPOKEN FOR YOU, ALL NATURE DANCE AND SING, GO FORTH AND BE YOURSELF." SAID HERA, THE QUEEN OF THE GODS. Re: When did you discover that you had a love for words?I wrote a poem about my love of words, I think I shall go post it now... |

Re: When did you discover that you had a love for words?Hmmm, let's see...since I was in junior high school. I was always the spelling bee champ. My mom said I used to read everything I could get my hands on, and it's true. To this day, if I'm in the bathroom and I'm kinda bored, I will sit there and read the back of the shampoo bottle or something just for the sake of having something to read. I also started writing in junior high school. Aced all my English classes...all my teachers said I had "potential". For some reason I used to hate that word. I still love to write, unless I have a wicked case of writer's block, which I'm suffering from now. |

Re: When did you discover that you had a love for words?Through the unmistakable burn and pain of loss.....my 1st GF died of a heart condition when I was 14 and I needed someway to express my feeling, someway to give form to my emotions....one day they just came out in a very short poem......the rest as they say is history lol.......now poetry is one of the only true avenues directly to the unsheathed heart of my feelings.....probably the only one......all other paths require enduring the thorns, climbing the walls, and passing the flames lol |

Are you sure you didn't have your left eye open? Or then again it might have been your third eye wide open. But then you did say you were seriously lopsided, so maybe it was your right eye. That would definitely be the cause of a very strange anatomy for sure. Later a poet friend RH Peat yet where is the visual cortex? occipital lobe! and where is the occipital lobe? at the base of the brain, the smallest of the lobes and pretty far away from the frontal lobes! lol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visual_cortex |

Re: When did you discover that you had a love for words?I've always been a good witer. Ever since I was a child, people used to tell me that I was good. I nearly wrote a book and am finishing another one. |

Re: When did you discover that you had a love for words?Wow, there are SO many talented and thought provoking people on this site...no chance of suffering from brain death any time soon if you all continue asking these interesting questions! And I am having a ball trying to answer, as well as posing questions of my own...Write on!!! |

Re: When did you discover that you had a love for words?I remember always being the outsider in school as far back as elementary. I was never really like the other kids and because of that, I was picked on and bullied from time to time. I embraced the isolation I was forced into by writing! I would go out during recess, find a corner by the playground fence to sit in and write. I wrote about how I was feeling, I wrote about the people that were either my friends or my enemies, I'd even write about crushes, home living and nature! Now that I'm 31, of course I have a "plethora" of poems that I've written that has carried the burden of bearing my every emotion, mood, and desire on their backs. It's proven to be a way of escape and also a coping mechanism in my life. My words come from the deepest, and most real and honest part of me just as I'm sure they come from each one of you also. |

Re: When did you discover that you had a love for words? When I was very young. I loved writing, anything, I would just sit and write letters on paper trying to make up words. LOL. I had a love for words, writing poems and songs to my parents, you know how it's valentines and you get the red paper and write out what the teacher helps you to say. Every holiday, birthday, and even just for no reason, I would love to woo anybody with what I wrote. I love giving poems just because, people remember it the most. Expression is a wonderful thing, But watch how you say it. I would love to be a writer someday. |

Re: When did you discover that you had a love for words?I can't ever remember not loving words. My parents read to me from birth. I was a fussy baby and the only times I was quiet was when my parents drove me around in the car or read to me. Reading was cheaper, LOL. Whatever they were reading was what they read aloud to me. Mom tells me that one time, she decided to see how long I would be still and listen. Her voice gave out before I got restless. Dad had a vague concept of what was appropriate for a small child, though, and I can remember having nightmares for weeks after he read Beowulf to me as a bed-time story. (I was six at the time.) |

Re: When did you discover that you had a love for words?I am a rare and unique breed. Although I can get lost in a dictionary or thesaurus for hours (even days) on end, I absolutely hate to read; for I do not comprehend. My love of words comes from spelling them and I believe that all started when I learned the rhythmic beat of MIssIssIppI. Even as I speak or think, I spell the words in my head; making sure I have it right. Sometimes spelling a specific word over and over again gets stuck in my head until it doesn't make sense anymore and I think I don't know how to spell it. I would go crazy if I could not look it up and find out if I was correct or not. May sound funny, but not when that happens with the word "the"! LOL (and it has... shhh~) |
To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
