A live Music Tribute Honoring My Brother
The Late Great Ben Laney
Last year my Brother Ben Laney a folk-rock songwriter, and singer songwriter Aprylle Gilbert did two shows together (Oct 23rd, Cayuga Vault w/ Jim Lewin and Feb 4th,Don Quixote's w/ Patti Maxine)
Sadly, he passed away June 13th at the age of 59 -after struggling with Lengthy medical problems .Most people remember him by his signature Piano keyboard hat that was permanently attached to his head! Ben gave Guitar and Piano lessons in Boulder Creek and Madera Calif.
He Sang with Jack Fuller and with Bobby Carr as well they were known as the "Nice Guise" back in the early 80's.
Ben and Aprylle were recording his second album prior to his death called "Here in These Hills" produced by Jim Lewin and Aprylle Gilbert with Bill Laymon and Keith Graves.
Unfortunately they were unable to release the album in time.
In the title track Ben sings about his love for the Santa Cruz mountains, "here in these hills is where I'll stay, till the last light in these baby blues fade..."

This event is all about the songs and music of Ben Laney, beloved folk-rocker of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Today we celebrate Ben's long awaited 2nd album, Here In These Hills , unreleased before his untimely death on June 13th, 2010 . The CD and this concert feature a lineup of world class musicians and recording artists: Jim Lewin of Great American Taxi & Lacy J. Dalton, Bill Laymon of New Riders of The Purple Sage & The Dave Nelson Band, Keith Graves of The Jefferson Starship & Quicksilver Messenger Service, along with singer songwriter Aprylle Gilbert, lap steel goddess Patti Maxine, and special guest performances by the family and loved ones of Ben Laney.
