THE POETRY OF BETTYSRAINBOW
Mrs. BettyJean Roberts, who writes under the pen-name, bettysrainbow, is an American poetess who resides in Washinghton. She once married a wrestler and was a singer in her younger years. Her second husband is magnanimous, loves her and is very supportive of her adventures into poetry. Her children are all culturally talented, She adores her many grandchildren and loves family life.
I have read all her poems on the Original Poetry website, and greatly admire the distinctly dominant, homely and intimate simplicity of style that pleasantly pervades all her creations. Most of her poetry divulge her personality, her character and her philosophy She loves life, She loves herself, she loves those who are close to her, she loves the whole world. Her poetry is rich in simplicity, at times, in commonplace postures and things, comfortable homely ambience , cushions and lacy curtains, Not all her poetry provides satiety. Some fail to satisfy the hunger and thirst of those to whom she sings. Most of her poems, however, are copious draughts of refreshing home-made nectar. Her poetry exudes an expansive and generous love. Mrs. Robert's mind is large and full of humility , reverence and empathy.
Her poetic style is simple but aesthetic, Her style is so facile, that even a four-year-old child can enjoy and understand.. Simple explicit language, concrete and familiar imagery, vivid yet down-to-earth description, a conversational tone , limited use of figiurative imagery are consistent factors which dominate her poetic skill ,and are her forte.
In the first poem of hers that I read, "Dragon Fly" she piquantly relates a dream in which she is bothered by a noisome "nasty old" Dragon Fly. The progression of the theme is amusingly treated up to when she awoke, and discovered that her "butterfly" her husband was breathing in her face with his mouth wide open, This is an amusing idyllic scene artistically told of two lovers closely asleep. The transfornation from sleep to wake , from dragon fly to butterfly, is skilfully and pleasantly treated, Mrs. Roberts conversatonal tone seen in many of her poems, is evident in "Dragon Fly" as a dominant, pervasive feature of most of her creations..
