For the 60th anniversary of the Golden Ellipse, Patek Philippe presents the Ref. 5738/1R-001, a watch with a link bracelet, handcrafted and crafted by artisans in Wellendorf, in full rose gold. There are 363 links in total, which are arranged in alternating rows and then aligned with a crossbar. This creates an extremely flexible and fully articulated bracelet that is worn like a second skin on the wrist. This project took them 15 years to reach a standard that satisfied both parties. Soothing the Melancholy
Rubeli believes that the inspiration for the Golden Ellipse came from his peer Gérald Genta. In fact, for a long time, many people believed that the Ellipse d'Or was actually the work of Genta. Although the designer had no role in the design of this watch, he did create one of the watchmaker's most famous watches, the Nautilus. This porthole-inspired watch has come a long way since 1976, and the Nautilus's identity as a luxury sports watch has evolved with the movements and complications introduced into the collection.
While the Nautilus collection used to offer more steel than gold watches, the balance shifted slightly when the Ref. 5811G Nautilus with a gradient blue dial replaced the Ref. 5711. This year, Patek Philippe has updated the Ref. 5980/60G-001 Nautilus Flyback Chronograph, which features the manufactory's powerful self-winding Caliber 28-520 C/522 Flyback Chronograph with vertical coupling and column-wheel operation.
This is one of the most popular Nautliuse models due to its unique design of the chronograph display, which nests the 12-hour totalizer inside the 30-minute counter, with the benefit that the rest of the dial remains poetically blank, except for the iconic recess. Aquanaut additional features
As the demand for precious metals for sports watches has been rising in the past few years, Patek Philippe has also expanded the number of gold-cased models in the Aquanaut series. For collectors who appreciate high-jewellery watches, Patek Philippe has unveiled a new watch that takes sporty chic to new heights. The Aquanaut Luce Haute Joaillerie Ref. 5268/461G-001 features brilliant- and baguette-cut diamonds and sapphires on the dial, bezel, buckle and lugs, and is housed in a 38.8 mm white gold case.
There are 40 baguette-cut sapphires in a light to dark blue gradient from the sides to the top and bottom, totaling 3.6 carats. An additional eight baguette-cut diamonds totaling 0.58 carats are set on the lugs. The hour markers are baguette-cut sapphires with brilliant-cut diamonds set in the middle in a snowflake setting. Finally, the center of the dial is composed of alternating baguette-cut diamonds and sapphires, replicating the Aquanaut's checkerboard pattern.
