That sounds like a plan! I'm sure that very soon I will be busy doing book signings (hopefully, anyway!), and maybe we could do some poetry readings as well...that would get us OUT THERE into the public eye. Fellow poets, what do you think? Do we start a poetry crusade or what?

we could do it guerilla style, just all move into a city and get booked at clubs and cafes all week, with people thing we are some band, and then recite poetry all night...

...massive poetry readings in parks... poet-stock!

I think a poet tour would be wonderful. I have been to poetry reading
events and found them to be exciting. It's great sharing your inner feelings.

not sure if anyone else knows about it but i found a site called:

poetry.openmikes.org

what's really nice about it is that you can sign up and let others know where you will be to read your poetry as well as find out where the poetry clubs are in your area.

i thought it was interesting enuff to pass on altho many of you may very well know about it already!

I think we (Opizines) should have a convention. My wife is a manager at the Civic Center of Greater Des Moines which is a non-profit organization dedicated to the arts as well as the finest play venue in the country, not on broadway believe it or not. I wonder if we couldn't get a place like that to sponsor the venue. Participants would still have to pay, but you'd get a venue. I haven't talked to her about it and I don't know that we could enough people interested to make it work, but it's an idea. If not Des Moines, who by the way is very supportive of the arts, what would be a good city that would support it? Any high level event organizers out there...I'd rather be one of the front and idea men (or women) than organizer?

I WOULD LOVE TO DO A SPOKEN WORD TOUR, LET US BRING OUR SENSE OF CULTURE TO THOSE YET TO BE INSPIRED. OR MAYBE JUST TO SHAKE THINGS UP A BIT. I SING WITH A BAND ON STAGE, SO IT WOULD BE NICE TO STOP YELLING AND ACTUALLY CONNECT IN A MORE PERSONAL SETTING. THAT IS IF YOU ALL WOULD HAVE ONE AS OFFBEAT AS I NORMALLY AM. LET ME KNOW, I AM INTERESTED.

I know just the place to kick it off here in New York a weekly reading called the Saturn Series and I now that the people there will join us in our crusade across the country spreading poetry, prose, music and art to those less fourtunate then us

Ok cool you all, I'm thinking plan slow, plan right, I'm looking like next spring, when we have more to plan with, and weather is good, and the first book of OP is out to help promote it.
Also, we need to look at hotels, and campground whatever ya know.
transportation, a bus, and a huge gas card.
I think that Castlemist, would be a good canidate, to head this, but 2 or more heads are better.

Do we hire roadies to carry our notebooks? Just kidding. No I am in if I can get there and am not working. Another thought is a local University. I know Amherst Ma. is the poetry capital of Mass.Then there's Cape Cod and plenty of other places like Woodstock N.Y.although most events are held in nearby Bethel, N.Y. There's Carnegie Hall and The Grand Ole Opry. When Dragonfly gets the poetry collection to the president maybe Mr. Obama will help us out and give us an Arts and Culture grant. Anywho keep all the info posted on here so I know what's happening Wordslinger...and tyvm for this lofty attempt.
