Everything's Changed She Said
"Everything's changed," she said.
I tried to resist the obvious question, but couldn't help myself, "What do you mean"?
"Well...things are different now, and I don't think they'll ever be the same."
"What's different?" I asked.
"My God, do I have to spell it out? Do I have to explain everything?" her pitch ascending.
"Well, I'm just trying to understand," I said matter-of-factly.
Her face turned crimson. "This is exactly what I'm talking about...the world changes and you just stand there and act like nothing's happened. It's infuriating"!
"The world...what world are you referring to?" I was mystified.
"If you don't know, there's no point in discussing it further."
"Discussing what further? I still don't know what we're talking about"!
She leveled the darkest shades of her eyes at me. "That's precisely the problem, you never know what we're talking about. How convenient for you"!
I was pissed. "Convenient? Nothing about this conversation is convenient. Why don't you just tell me what set you off"?
"Why - so you can fix it"?!
"Well, try and make it better anyway."
Her eyes went buggy. "You're not listening to me...everything's changed -- it can't be fixed -- nothing is going to make it better"!
I surveyed the room for trap doors and hidden cameras. "What the hell am I supposed to do"?
Is this it? It seems like we've been existing in alternate galaxies. Maybe she's right, maybe everything has changed.
"Why don't you just come over here and hold me?" she said, her voice now soft and sultry.
I studied her from across the room. She looked like an alien. I wondered how she could be so repulsive and attractive at the same time. My body obediently moved closer and I commanded my reluctant arms to encircle her.
"Mmmmm...much better," she whispered. "I love you."
"I love you too."
